Art has been teaching P.E. at our school for 9 years. Art believes one of the most important jobs in education is to get young children off to the best possible start in sports and fitness by providing a foundation for their further progress and development. Art models being a great enthusiast of physical fitness. He both teaches and plays with the children, instructing, guiding and encouraging them to do their best. He brings them along at just the right pace, building their confidence and skills so that they can discover their innate capacities and gifts. He comes up with creative team games as well as challenges them to personally improve their skills. One of Art’s most important qualities is his ability to be sensitive to each child. They feel his caring and personal attention, and this makes them willing to effort and take risks, knowing that at our school, we all celebrate each others learning and growth. Art also has been known to help a child with a particular sport outside of school time. Kids respond so well to his coaching that parents have also hired him to coach their children, as well as to work with him themselves!
